Emily Hankins is a longtime friend of Joan Watson.

Biography

Background

Emily went to the same college as Joan Watson,[1] and works in journalism. She has a six year old daughter.[2]

Season one

She set Joan up with her friend Aaron Ward not knowing that he was married.[2] When Joan quits her sober companion career to become a consultant detective, Emily becomes worried and stages an intervention. She tells Joan that she and her friends are worried because she quit her job and lives with the recovering addict Sherlock Holmes. They also think she's involved with him. Joan becomes hurt, and walks out of the bar they were in. Emily later calls her and apologizes.[1]
