Gerald Lydon was the wealthy CEO of Lydon Industries. He was diagnosed with hereditary cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). He has two sons, Carter and Josh.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

Lydon tracks down Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson and asks for help. Lydon explains he has dementia, but assures them he is lucid when he brings up his diagnosis of CAA, a disease which his family has no history of. Knowing he will eventually die, Lydon asks Holmes to track down his murderer. Holmes, however, refuses, saying he only takes on cases when he believes he is acting in "good faith" and concludes Lydon's situation is a result of his "naturally occurring" dementia.

In an attempt to change Holmes' mind, Lydon sends a gift to him via his driver, Mr. Crabtree: a solitary bee (Osmia avosetta), which is on the verge of extinction. But Holmes says he cannot accept the gift.

The following morning, Lydon is charged with murdering Crabtree, which was witnessed by his nurse, Ms. Thompson. Claiming he has no memory of committing the murder, Lydon requests that Holmes be brought in. He explains he can't imagine Crabtree would ever try to harm him and is having a hard time separating what is real and what isn't. The idea of Lydon murdering someone he's known for over twenty years doesn't sit well with Holmes, nor does Lydon's conviction that someone has orchestrated his disease, and he decides to take on Lydon's case.
