The first season of Elementary premiered on September 27, 2012. The series presents a contemporary update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's character Sherlock Holmes set in 21st century America. Sherlock is a former consulting detective to Scotland Yard and a recovering drug addict. After travelling to New York City to escape those he disappointed, he's forced to check into a rehabilitation center by his father, Morland, and have Joan Watson as his live-in sober companion while he pursues his passion as a consulting detective with the NYPD. Watson accompanies Sherlock on his cases and develops an affinity for his work.
On October 23, 2012, CBS picked up Elementary for a full season.[1] Shooting for the second episode started in late July.[2] On November 15, 2012, CBS ordered two additional episodes to its current season, bringing the total number of episodes to 24.[3] On March 27, 2013, CBS renewed Elementary for a second season.[4]
The first season was shot at Silvercup Studios in Queens, and other various locations in New York City.[5] The first season was released on DVD on August 27, 2013.[6][7]
